Upcoming hip hop artist Baby Keem released his second mix tape, ‘Die For My B****’ on July 19, 2019. Baby Keem has slowly but surely gained recognition from rappers such as Kendrick Lamar. He recently gained popularity from his song ORANGE SODA which debuted at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been used as an audio by many on the app Tik Tok. “I am not very surprised he has gained so much popularity seeing as ORANGE SODA is super popular on Tik Tok,” said junior Madison Voelker.

Throughout his second mix tape, Baby Keem raps about his past relationship experiences, lifestyle, and boasts upon his accomplishments. In the songs HONEST and BULLIES Baby Keem chooses to use a mellow beat complemented by soft lyrics that explain past relationship experiences. “I really like Baby Keem’s lyrics and how he connects them to his beats,” said junior Grace Runkle. In HONEST Baby Keem explains that he wishes that him and his past lover could speak the truth to each other. In BULLIES Baby Keem takes a more dramatic approach in describing his past relationship and portrays the relationship as a bully.

Baby Keem or Hykeem Carter has been a notable writer for soundtracks such as Black Panther The Album Music From And Inspired By and The Lion King: The Gift. Baby Keem was 18 at the time when he co-wrote and co-produced Nile for Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar on The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack. Baby Keem has been linked to Kendrick Lamar ever since they collaborated with their writing. “Baby Keem reminds me of a mix of Kendrick Lamar and Juice Wrld,” said junior Runkle.

In the future, we can expect more expressive and relatable songs from Baby Keem. Whether it’s writing, producing, or creating his own music, Baby Keem proves to be a future top artist. “I can’t wait to see what Baby Keem releases next, his music is really different,” said Voelker.
