The Marvel comics famed creator and legend Stanley Martin Lieber, more popularly known as Stan Lee, recently passed at the age of 95 on November 12, 2018. He initially started out his career by working as an office boy for the Marvel Comics, which meant that he fetched lunch and proof read. Things eventually picked up for Lee and he began to work on comic books himself, beginning in 1941 with the third issue of Captain America. From there his position as interim editor escalated to president of the company where he created or co-created many of Marvel’s superheroes such as ‘Spider-Man’, ‘The Hulk’, ‘Thor’, ‘Iron Man’, ‘Black Panther’, ‘X-men’ and so many more. He gained nationwide popularity when he created the superhero series ‘The Fantastic Four’ where his superheroes were imperfect, flawed, and vulnerable in spite of their superhuman powers rather than selling the idea of a perfect and competent one.

Stan Lee is said to have brought a whole new brand to the comic world, through his satirical writing and ability to bring every day struggles into the life of his heroes. He also changed the way comic books came together by creating a collaborative workflow between the writer and the artist, which became known as the “Marvel Method”. It was Lee who made Marvel comics into a multimedia entertainment empire known and adored all around the world. Although Lee’s passing brings an end to one of the best eras in not just comic book history, but also in the history of TV series, video games, and movies, his creations will have impacted a long-lasting legacy.
