Tennis season just concluded with its final match against Georgetown East View and the team is bonded closer than ever. Rookie and veteran players all worked as a family to come together and bring home a winning season. Senior Elexa Ashby said, “Tennis is so fun! Everyone is comfortable with everyone. We have watched a lot of movies and have played a lot of matches. We laugh and cry together; we have been through a lot.” Through spending so much time together, the team has become very close and is a home away from home to many players.

Transfer student, Noah Garcia, is being praised for bringing new talent to the team this season. “Everyone was super welcoming and so nice when I got to Bastrop. They were the first people I met and they are now my best friends”, said Garcia. A Lot of athletes on the team know what it feels like to be the new player. Ashby says, “It is important to welcome new teammates so we can be a close team. We play as a family, work as a family, and hang out of a family.”

Like many other sports, tennis takes time and dedication. Ashby said,” Tennis is pretty big in my life because I’ve been playing since 7th grade. It takes up most of my schedule and I even play select tennis on the side.”

Even though the team will not be advancing past district this year, they consider the season a success. Garcia said,” At the end of the day it’s not about how one person plays, it’s how the team plays together and that’s all that matters”.
